About
Who is Andy Collins:
I was born in Boston, Massachusetts back in 1977 and grew up in Cohasset, a town just south of Boston. Well thats not completely true, between the ages of 1 and 6 I lived in Darien, Connectitcut. So I mostly grew up in Cohasset.
In 2000 I graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. My first job was at Stone and Webster and it was quite the reality check. I then moved on to work at a Civil, Environment and Land Development firm as a structural engineer primarily designing bridges, walls, buildings and the like. The pay was lousy, the work was mind numbingly boring and I hating sitting and staring at a computer all day.
In 2006 I made a commitment to myself and my wife that I would take a big career risk by doing something new. At that point I didn’t know what that was going to be and tried a few things in vane. As 2006 came to a close the idea of getting involved in the green home business started to materialize. I can say with sincerity that I was not jumping on the band wagon having done my 6th grade science fair project on solar homes. Its always been an interest of mine.
As the icy cold fingers of the cubical and office life gripped tighter and tighter around my neck and as I saw the lifeless, dull and painfully dehumanizing life my superiors led I knew it was time to jump ship. So as 2007 drew to a close I ended the year departing the office and striking off on my own just as 2008 arrived.
I’m now successfully and happily running a small contracting company focusing on home remodeling and renovations and bringing as much green knowledge, technology, and materials to the table as I can.
